REGIME (ASSAD) PERSPECTIVE
The regime's main concern is to keep Assad in power. This was clearly shown when the authoritarian government conveniently lowered the minimum ruling age from 40 to 34 (Assad was 34 at the time) shortly after the death of Assad's father. This sudden age requirement allowed Assad to inherit the throne from his father.
Assad himself is unwilling to compromise his power, and will try his best to keep himself on the throne.
The regime views all rebels as terrorists and enemies of the country. As Assad said, "The conspirators took their plan to other governorates. As you know, they moved to Latakia and other cities using the same techniques; murder, intimidation, and incitement."
